Transform your home this Christmas

Transform your home this Christmas

Christmas is the perfect opportunity for interior designers and perfectionists alike to live out their decorating dreams, it is also an excuse for us all to dress our homes in all manner of wonderful twinkling lights and ornaments. The timing is just right, with the weather turning bitter and the evenings drawing in, we could all benefit from a festive ramp-up to lift our moods.

Laid-back luxury

Counteract the chaos of the festivities, and embrace the simple beauty of natural decorations. From fresh eucalyptus, to rich and bold poinsettia. Wintry plants are the best way to keep things simple yet stylish.

Give your tree a theme

Decorating your tree in a cohesive theme is much simpler than it seems, and there’s still plenty of room for tweaking and personalising to your liking. For example, you could uniform the shapes, play with the sizes or coordinate the colours and change up the styles. Choose a handful of your favourite traditional festive colours or some sparkling and matte neutrals for a more modern look.

Low clutter, maximum effect

Use Christmas decorations to enhance your space rather than crowd it. Elongate your shelves and bannisters with festive, snowy garlands. Hang strings of paper snowflakes or gingerbread men along the walls to draw the eye upwards and give your windows some sparkle with twinkling decorative lights. Consider keeping most of the décor at a height, as the more floor space available for present unwrapping and fireplace gathering, the better.

Deck the hallway with boughs of holly

When dressing up your living room with all of your favourite festive goods, don’t forget to make a grand entrance. Consider adding a second smaller tree in the hallway to greet your guests, a festive welcoming mat, or even a sprig of mistletoe hanging over the door.

Ignite the Christmas table

The dining room will become the hub of your home over Christmas, so it makes sense to go all-out on styling your ultimate Christmas table. For a touch of sophistication, choose a colour scheme to help you coordinate your Christmas dinnerware and embellishments. Ideally, this would align with the rest of the room or even the tree décor. Don’t forget to add a little extra sparkle with a table runner and an eye-catching centrepiece. Impress your guests over this season with attention to detail by making your own handmade name cards for Christmas dinner.
