Held at Old Market Place in the heart of Chiswick on the first Sunday of every month, the market showcases the finest British-grown flowers, houseplants, and horticultural artistry.
It champions independent growers and traders, providing a platform for local businesses to thrive by showcasing their produce.
The market, operated entirely by volunteers, initially faced the challenges of face masks, distancing, and hand gel. However, its outdoor setting proved advantageous, establishing Old Market Place as a safe meeting point for friends during a time when socialising was restricted.
Remarkably, Chiswick Flower Market was the first of its kind to open in 150 years, quickly gaining recognition as a 'Top Ten Thing to do in London' by Time Out and coverage by BBC London. Today, it attracts up to 10,000 visitors each month.
Among its successes is an innovative, free bike delivery system run by Jeremy Day, allowing visitors to transport plants home without the need for a car. The market has also been a launchpad for businesses like Urban Tropicana, which started as a market stall and now operates a shop in Chiswick. Additionally, In the Garden, another market participant, has won an award at the Chelsea Flower Show, thanks to mentorship from an experienced trader.
