Edenbridge Area Guide

History

Edenbridge is located on the border of Kent and Surrey. It lies at the historic heart of the Eden valley, between the High Weald and the North Downs. It was the building of “Eadenhelms bridge” in the tenth century that gave both the town and the valley their names. The town was an important centre for traditional industry, such as iron smelting and tanning. There are some traditional medieval buildings, a church, coaching inns and courtyards which, along with the Eden Valley Museum provide an insight into the history of the place. Edenbridge holds a monthly farmers market and one of the oldest annual bonfire celebrations in the country. The town is surrounded by idyllic countryside with some traditional pubs, spectacular views, historic castles and stately homes.

Edenbridge railway station provides commuter trains to Redhill and Tonbridge for onward connections.

Sport and leisure opportunities include walking, cycling and horse riding around the Surrey Hills and High Weald Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and along the North Downs Way, Greensand Way and Vanguard Way plus an abundance of woodland and local circular walks.
