Dorchester-On-Thames is a popular village with a population of around 1,000. The village is located roughly three miles northwest of Wallingford and eight miles southeast of Oxford. The village is a few hundred yards from the confluence of the River Thames and River Thame, which provides some very pretty walks and hikes in some of Oxfordshire’s prettiest countryside.
The architecture carries a certain grandeur, which in part owes its existence to being (briefly) the capital of Mercia around the 7th century. The High Street blends elegant 17th-century mansions with townhouses and pretty cottages, all-enveloping the archetypical English village.

Dorchester-On-Thames has been a popular location for the TV series Midsummer Murders, and scenes from several episodes have been filmed in the village. The Abbey Church of St Peter and St Paul, more usually called Dorchester Abbey, was formerly a Norman abbey church and was built on the site of a Saxon cathedral.
The village is well served by a supermarket and a good sprinkling of pubs/restaurants and cafés. There are doctors surgeries and dental practices in the neighbouring villages of Clifton Hampden and Benson and a sports centre at nearby Berinsfield. Around the village, especially to the north, are a series of flooded gravel pits, some of which are owned by Orchid Lakes and used for angling. One of the larger lakes is also home to Dorchester Sailing Club.
