Warkworth is a beautiful, quaint old Northumbrian village almost surrounded by a loop in the River Coquet, about a mile from the coast. The village itself has thankfully been left almost untouched by modern life and tourism. In between the Castle and the Church are many Inns, upmarket shops and galleries, gift shops and tea rooms.
Amble is situated on the Northumberland coast, at the mouth of the River Coquet, just a mile from Warkworth. The town is now a popular place for holidays with its pleasant harbour, marina, proximity to beautiful beaches and many cafes and restaurants. The town is undergoing regeneration and development, with new apartments, restaurants and shops popping up by the marina, and property prices have risen quite considerably over the last few years.
Amble prides itself on being the ‘friendliest port in England’, and its annual puffin festival, brightly coloured beach huts and the wooden retail pods of Amble Harbour Village are just a few of its quirks.

Highlights and Attractions
Warkworth Castle

At one end of the village sat on top of a hill is the stunning ruin of Warkworth Castle. Visiting the castle is a fun family day out, where you can see how the powerful Dukes of Northumberland, the Percy family lived. Explore the floors and rooms in the magnificent cross-shaped keep which was once home to 'Harry Hotspur', immortalised as a rebel lord by Shakespeare, and the bane of Scottish raiders. See the spectacular river and coastal views from the castle walls.
Amble Harbour

The Puffin Cruise sails from Amble Harbour, taking you out to spot the 36,000-bird colony nesting on Coquet Island, an RSPB seabird sanctuary a mile off the coast.
Warkworth Beach

Warkworth Beach is less than a mile away from historic Warkworth village, between Birling Carrs and Amble Breakwater. The beach offers a vast expanse of pristine, golden sand stretching as far as the eye can see.
Golf
For golf enthusiasts, Warkworth Golf Club is located on the North Sea coast just outside the village of Warkworth, midway between Rivers Tyne and Tweed. Originally laid out in 1892 by the legendary Tom Morris, the current layout comprises nine greens, each with two very different tee boxes, providing a true 18-hole experience. It is renowned for its fast-draining soil which means it is rarely closed due to damp conditions.
