Sitting in an area of natural outstanding beauty, with its mainline station to Paddington, the picturesque Kennet & Avon canal, Ofsted rated outstanding primary school & the largest privately owned forest in Britain on your doorstep, Great Bedwyn remains ever popular. A village which has bucked the trend and retains a post office, doctors surgery, village store, café and a pub!

History

With links to the Romans and Saxons, Great Bedwyn has a long and interesting history. Remains of a large Saxon church remain under St Mary's Church, which is Grade I listed and holds the tombs of the Seymour family, Jane famously being the 3rd wife of Henry VIII. The arrival of the Kennet & Avon Canal & Great Western railway in the 19th Century ensured the village retained the buzz it still has today!

Education

The village primary school is rated outstanding by Ofsted and is part of the Excalibur Academy, which feeds St John's Marlborough. Private schooling locally is also outstanding with St Francis Prep school, Pinewood, Marlborough College and Dauntseys being popular choices.

Facilities

The village retains many services, which so many other villages have lost - a village shop, which includes a bakery and post office counter, doctors surgery, tennis club, cafe & village pub. The mainline station to Paddington is a strong draw for many residents.
