Garstang Area Guide

The historic market town of Garstang sits between Lancaster and Preston City and is famous for being the world’s first Fairtrade town. This pretty town is a popular location for families and has a spirited community, playing host to an array of annual events such as the well established Children’s Festival and Christmas Victorian evenings to name but a few.

Attractions

There is access to the Lancaster Canal for lovely weekend walks as well as a lovely picnic spot at the Millennium Green that is set along the banks of the River Wyre and with beautiful views over the Bowland Fells.

Along with the traditional high street, Garstang has plentiful amenities with three major supermarkets, post office, a leisure centre, tennis club, doctors, dentist and library.

Education

There are a number of primary schools within the town and the secondary school of Garstang Community Academy. It's also easy commuting distance to Lancaster Royal Grammar & the Girls Grammar School.

Commuting

Garstang offers excellent transport links including regular bus services to Preston & Lancaster and easy access onto the A6 Preston Lancaster New Rd. Motorway connections are also within close proximity with access to the M6 & M55 network.

The Property Market

The property market in Garstang has remained buoyant throughout this difficult year, over the last year sold prices were similar to last year and up 2% on the peak of 2018. The majority of sales being detached properties, with a number of those sales being new build properties. Garstang has seen an increase of new developments over the last few years, especially as the town is a desirable, safe and friendly place to live. This last year has certainly been a sellers market due to the lack of stock coming to the market.
