Folkestone is a seaside town that used to be an important shipping port but today it is the terminus for the Channel Tunnel. In its heyday Folkestone was the country’s most fashionable seaside resort spearheaded by Edward VII. The architecture with its crescents and squares, particularly in the West End and along the famous Leas promenade, is testament to royalty and aristocracy flocking to the town when huge villas, grand hotels and impressive mansions were built. Most of these properties have now been turned into attractive apartments although there are still plenty of large detached properties available as well as 1930s semis and Victorian terraces.

The centre of town includes high street stores, cafes and restaurants but the great attraction is the Creative Quarter along the cobbled high street. Here you will find brightly coloured buildings, fascinating artisan shops, galleries and eateries as well as wonderful walks around the harbour and along the seafront. The town has three primary and three secondary schools including two grammar schools, with St Eanswythe Primary and Harvey Grammar rated Outstanding by Ofsted. There are also two stations with the high speed train that can take you to St Pancras in 53 minutes.
